Unintended Consequences of AI

One thing I have noticed about AI technology is that it tends to reverse the process of improving software. Before AI, a tricky bug would often require hours of troubleshooting and in the process the developer would likely not only find the bug but identify design flaws that led to the bug and made it hard to find in the first place. Today, with AI doing the bug fixes, the design of the code is not improved as a byproduct the way it once was. Instead, the AI is supremely capable of fixing a poorly designed codebase without touching the actual design at all. What do you think will be the long term effects of this new way of doing things?
